Robert L. Jamieson

This bursary honours Robert L. Jamieson, the late father of Roberta L. Jamieson, President & CEO of Indspire. A Mohawk from the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, Robert (Bob) was revered as a jazz pianist and entrepreneur. Touring during WWII as part of the US Army Special Services, he continued to perform throughout his life. Bob is recognized in the Jazz archives of the Library of Congress as one of the first Native North Americans to compose and record a jazz song on vinyl, “Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere” (1937).

Robert L. Jamieson Award for Indigenous Students

These bursaries will be distributed to Indigenous students who are attending post-secondary institutions with demonstrated financial need studying music or fine arts. Other factors such as volunteerism and academic success may also be considered.
