Ontario Power Generation is proud to be one of the largest, most diverse clean power producers in North America.

OPG invest millions in local economies and employ thousands of people to maintain a modern, sophisticated energy fleet. And we partner with local, environmental and Indigenous groups to improve the well-being of our site communities.

Ontario Power Generation John Wesley Beaver Memorial Scholarship

John Wesley Beaver was one of Hydro’s most notable native engineers. John was a fighter pilot in the Second World War and graduated from Queens University as an electrical engineer. John joined Ontario Hydro in 1949 (OPG’s predecessor).  John rose rapidly in the organization to eventually become operations engineer for Northeastern Ontario.  Over his career, John had many notable accomplishments and exemplified qualities of leadership.  This scholarship pays tribute to him while encouraging an indigenous student to pursue their studies while contributing to their families and community.

Indigenous students from Ontario Power Generation’s communities are encouraged to apply. Recipients of this award will be eligible and may be considered for a paid work term/placement at Ontario Power Generation.
