Toronto Metropolitan University has a longstanding commitment to supporting Indigenous students and Indigenous ways of learning. TMU’s Elder and Senior Advisor, Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, sits at the leadership table and is part of TMU’s commitment to increasing Indigenous representation at the senior level. The Elder and Senior Advisor works to further embed Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into the university’s culture.
The cornerstone of the university’s commitment to the Indigenous community is Toronto Met Aboriginal Student Services (also known by its acronym RASS). Launched in 1994, RASS has steadily expanded to meet the needs of our growing Indigenous population, and adapt to the growth of Indigenous-related initiatives across the campus. The RASS support team includes a counsellor, an academic advisor, and Indigenous peer supporters who coach students one-on-one.
Tory’s LLP Scholarships for Indigenous Law Students
Toronto Metropolitan University Law is committed to diversity and inclusion, and to building a robust scholarship and bursary program for its law students. International business law firm Torys LLP supports this drive with a generous commitment of their own. The Torys LLP Scholarships for Indigenous Students are renewable entrance scholarships worth $20,000 each, awarded to Indigenous students with high academic standing entering their first year at Toronto Metropolitan University’s Faculty of Law. Applicants must be enrolled full-time and demonstrate financial need.
The Torys LLP Scholarships for Indigenous Law Students are awarded to:
- Either First Nation status, recognized by the Federal Government, non-status, Inuit, or Métis;
- Full-time Indigenous students enrolled in Toronto Metropolitan University Law with high academic standing;
- Based on demonstrated financial need.
There are two awards available for Fall 2024. Students selected will require confirmation of enrollment to TMU Law for Fall 2024. The value is $20,000 annually, renewed for an additional two years, provided they continue to meet eligibility requirements. Total funding package is $60,000.

Toronto Metropolitan University Indigenous Student Awards, Supported by Hydro One
Four undergraduate awards of $8,800 each will be distributed annually to Indigenous student(s) enrolled at Toronto Metropolitan University, who are eligible for funding through Indspire.
Although demonstrated financial need will be the primary consideration, other factors may also be considered such as involvement in and contribution to the community as a whole; and demonstrated academic merit and performance.
