Indigeno Travel

Indigeno Travel is a majority Indigenous-owned travel agency with a mission to unite travellers in a spirit of reconciliation. The inspiration behind the company was, in part, the late Darrell Phillips of Manitoba’s Hollow Water First Nation. Having organized several tour groups of Indigenous and non-Indigenous students Darrell believed that travel is practical way to facilitate reconciliation, through experience and understanding of other cultures. Though he succumbed to cancer in 2017, Darrell’s dream was realized when Indigeno Travel was founded by his widow Charlene and his friend Chris Maxfield.
Opening a travel business just prior to the pandemic in 2020 came with a unique set of challenges. However, since the return of travel two years later, Indigeno is becoming known within the Indigenous community and beyond. Its purpose is to advance the Indigenous economy by providing service and education to Indigenous and non-Indigenous clients. Indigeno endeavours to show respect for people and our planet, and to work towards reconciliation of all peoples on the earth.
By partnering with Indspire to provide student bursaries, Indigeno is working to achieve its purpose of education. From inception, one of the company’s goals has been to train and employ Indigenous people in the travel industry. We are grateful for the opportunity to support Indigenous youth by achieving success in education and employment.
